Maybe there is a crystal ball in Times Square in New York, but in Flagstaff, state Arizona, there is a much more interesting New Year's tradition - the fall of a giant cone. This unusual pinecone reaches six feet long (just under two meters)
Closer to 10:00 pm on December 31, a crowd of locals and tourists gather near the Weatherford Hotel to see the first cone fall. The second one can be seen immediately at midnight. This event has gained immense popularity since the first time it was held in 1999.
