Jeep tour

The upcoming summer season, tourists going to Abkhazia, may lose a unique opportunity to test their nerves for strength : jeep tours along river beds may be prohibited. This issue was raised at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday.

Local "green", in particular, the State Committee on Ecology, initiated the ban. According to the committee, trips by jeeps destroy the riverbeds and turn them into ditches, with the pollution of the riverbeds. Jeep tours reduce the already small population of rare fish species, damages the flora and fauna and disrupts the ecological balance on the mountain rivers, Turprom notes.
