The history of the Admiralteysky District of St. Petersburg, as its name suggests, has always been closely connected with the Russian Fleet. On the territory of the district there is the Admiralty, the St. Nicholas Epiphany Orthodox Cathedral and the Admiralty Shipyards, the oldest shipbuilding company in the country. Yes, and the names of some streets have a "water" theme - there is Galernaya, as well as the Big and Small Marine Streets.

The Admiralty building was built in surprisingly short for those times - a little more than one year, and the first ships it began to be produced a few months after the start of construction. Considering that initially the Admiralty was also used to protect the city, the original version of the building was more like a fortress, and its dimensions were far from being miniature - almost half a kilometer in length - the rates are amazing even for our time.

At an altitude of 72 meters above the city on the steeple of the Admiralty there is a weathervane-boat, which has become one of the symbols of the city. From the bottom, of course, it seems very tiny, although in fact it weighs about 65 kilograms, two of which are gold used for its coating. It is known that in the early 18th century, at the time of the construction of the Admiralty, there were no ships that looked like the one crowned by its spire. According to one version, the boat on the weathercock is an exact copy of the Eagle, the first Russian warship built in 1668.

Legends of Petersburg. Admiralty.

With that a ship is due several legends of St. Petersburg . Some believe that the flags on the boat weathervane made of pure gold, and in his bow stored personal box of Peter I of . Once in St. Petersburg, there were rumors the fact that under it are stored samples of every gold coin minted in the city since its foundation - only the secret of opening the cache in which they are stored is irretrievably lost, so no one can open it . And during the gilding of the spire in 1977 in A ball under the boat (in the same place where they should be yli stored coins) was hidden draft of the Constitution .

However, even without the "sea" component of the Admiralty district there is something to admire - which is one of only Isaac's Cathedral and the Bronze Horseman
