The hut in the clouds is a small shelter, where up to ten people can fit. It is located at an altitude of 3260 meters on Mount Matterhorn in Switzerland and is intended for emergency situations. Nevertheless, many climbers stop in it simply to relax and admire the breathtaking views, especially since two-thirds of the way has already been passed and to the top of the mountain there are 475 meters. It is best to observe the beauty from the edge of the ledge, where you can see a panorama of the majestic surroundings of the peaks of Mount Rose.
Hurley Hut was built in August 1915. Then all the materials were brought there with the help of animals. A temporary cable car was also used to transport materials to the construction site. The original hut was built in just 5 days, but in 1966 it was completely redesigned and a telephone with an emergency line was installed there in 1976.
The sponsor of the construction was Ernest Solve who invented the industrial process for the production of soda from table salt . Most of the he devoted his life to this business, and began climbing with mountaineering only after retirement . He often visited the Alps, the Dolomites and the Mont Blanc region . His companions were Alua Supersaxo guides from Saas-Fee and Martin Schloher from Pontrasina . As a token of gratitude forgotten hours in the mountains, and also realizing that sudden thunderstorms could lead to tragedies, he decided to initiate the construction of the hut .
