Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor is responsible for the current appearance of the architect Juan de Villanueva, who in 1790 began work on the reconstruction of the area after a series of huge fires. In the center of the square stands the bronze statue of Philip III (1616), and the most famous building is the Casa de la -Panaderia (bakery), the construction of which began during the laying of the square.
