The Kul-Sharif mosque in Kazan is the main mosque of Tatarstan, one of the largest mosques in Europe, located in the Kazan Kremlin.

The most beautiful architectural complex was built in place of the legendary mosque of the Kazan Khanate, which was destroyed during the assault of Kazan by the troops of Ivan the Terrible in 1552.

The name of the mosque was in honor of Kul-Sharif, the last imam of the destroyed church's Seid.

Architectural features

The Kul-Sharif mosque was originally created as a single architect kturny complex, which includes the mosque itself, a building tour and so-called memorial stone. The construction of the temple is two square crossed at a 45-degree angle in the form of a sign known in the Muslim world as "the blessing of Allah."

The windows of the dome of the mosque, decorated for the "Kazan cap", are carved in the shape of tulips. The complex has 4 main minarets, the height of each of which is 58 meters. In addition, there are 2 small minarets, and 2 - at the corners of the main entrance. Inside the building sightseeing balconies open for excursion groups are organized.
