The reserve is located in the south-eastern part of Primorsky Krai (Lazovsky District) on the southern spur of the Sikhote-Alin Range - the Zapovedniy Ridge (the highest elevation within the reserve is 1379 m above sea level), gradually dropping to the south up to the coast of the Sea of ​​Japan.

1212 species of plants grow on the territory, including 44 rare and endangered species. There are 57 species of terrestrial mammals, 7 of which are listed in the Red Book. The main ones are the Amur tiger, goral, spotted deer. Registered 319 species of birds.
