Festival "Polar lights"
On October 6 in the hotel "Ambassador" "A press conference was held dedicated to the unique cultural event, which will be held in St. Petersburg in late November. Festival "Northern Lights" from the northern Norwegian city of Tromsø November 26 on the stage of the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theater will be presented by the northernmost orchestra in the world Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra. The first foreign concert of the orchestra will be held within the framework of the festival "Brass evenings at the Mariinsky."

At a press conference:

  • Ulf Jensen, Director of the Festival "Polar Lights", Tromso, Norway
  • Rolf-Kato Rode , Director of the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, Norway
  • Rune Osheim, Consul General, Royal Consulate General of the Kingdom of Norway in St. Petersburg
  • Vyacheslav Ivanovich Lupachev, Head of the Mariinsky Theater Development and Innovation Programs Division
  • Jan Eirik Jonsen, committee on fish exports in Russia

The surprise for those attending the press conference was the opportunity to communicate via the Skype system with maestro Christian Lindbergh, which was provided by the organizers of the festival . Maestro with pleasure answered questions from journalists from the Belgian city of Antwerp, where he works at the moment . Mr. Lindberg stressed that he was very pleased to be able to present his orchestra in St. Petersburg: "The Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra is the world's most northerly orchestra and its performance in St. Petersburg will be like ice and flame ! For orchestra this is the first concert in its history outside of Norway, and we believe that the Mariinsky Theater is the most suitable place for the international debut of this newly created orchestra ! "Maestro hopes for a warm reception of the Petersburg public and I am sure that true connoisseurs of classical music will come to the concert

A musical gift for the participants of the press conference was the performance of a member of the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, oboist Bengt Rosengren, who brilliantly performed two of Britten's works

The gala concert of the Norwegian Orchestra in conjunction with the Mariinsky Theater Brass Quintet will include works by two Norwegian composers - Ole Olsen and Edward Grieg, the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the Swedish composer Christian Lindbergh, the world-famous trombonist, also the principal conductor of the Ark Philharmonic Orchestra . Mr. Ulf Jensen, Director of the Festival, noted that the concert is the result of the cooperation of the Festival "Polar Lights" with the Mariinsky Theater . In January 2010 . at the invitation of the Festival "Polar Lights", the Mariinsky Ballet for the first time in history visited Norway . Tickets for three ballet gala performances in Tromsø were sold out in minutes, and the performance itself became a national event . It was enthusiastically received by spectators and the press - both Norwegian and foreign . Or the Festival organizers are deeply grateful to maestro Valery Gergiev who invited the Festival "Northern Lights" to present the concert program based on the repertoire of the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra in the Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall .

The concert program is interesting and diverse: the Mariinsky Concert Hall the world premiere of the recently-found Trombone Concerto by composer Ole Olsen (1850-1927), written in 1886 ., but never before performed . Solo in this work sung maestro Christian Lindberg . The well-known pianist and orchestra concerto in A minor for the great Norwegian composer Edward Grieg (1843-1907) will be performed next to the orchestra by a young Norwegian pianist, a rising star, Christian Ile Hadland, who is often called the "new Andesnes" . With special excitement the musicians of the orchestra will play Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's symphony No. 5, presenting to the court of the discerning Russian listener his interpretation of the great work . The special number in this concert will be local performance of Christian Lindbergh and the Mariinsky Theater Brass Quintet . They will perform Lindberg's work "Condor Canyon" (2000) .

Sponsors of the event are the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture of Norway, the Administration of Tromsø province (Norway), the Municipality Tromsø (Norway), Norwegian Committee for the Export of Fish and Innovation Norwa
