Mastodon among the museum collection of all Asia, the Tokyo National Museum, like the Louvre Museum, can be visited daily during the week, and never see the entire exposition. First opened its doors in 1872, today this museum contains 120 thousand items of storage. Is it not so bad for such a small country by the standards of the Earth?
The exposition is, I must say, fascinating: besides its own collection of various sculptures, paintings, samurai armor and kimono, temporary exhibitions with pharaohs and anime are constantly arranged here. The museum is freely located on 100 thousand square meters, occupying five buildings at once. This is the Main, Eastern, Ceremonial Corps, Heisei and the Treasures of the Chorju-ji temples. Indeed, the Tokyo National Museum is a giant cultural center.
For us, white barbarians from the Eurasian mainland, the most interesting part The museum is Honkan, a gallery of Japanese art that covers a huge period of its development. Among the exhibits there are ancient Buddhist sculptures, Japanese books wrapped in incredible lengths of the scroll, samurai armor and many other ancient and elegant things, which kind of captivate the spirit.
