Add a review about the Venetian Arsenal

Arsenal today is a military and commercial marine museum where you can trace the history of Venice as it was in the minds of the average European to all these romantic cliches - that is, as a major Mediterranean port.

Once upon a time, Charles Dickens called Arsenal "the real wreck of a shipwreck drifting into the sea."

The name "Arsenal" is derived from the Arabic word "darsina'a", it translates as "workshop". It was the Venetian arsenal that was the first such structure that gave the names to shipyards around the world.

Today it's hard to imagine, but at the height of its development Arsenal provided jobs for more than 16 thousand people. Even by modern standards this is a very large enterprise. And this happened thanks to a breakthrough in production, which allowed them to compete in shipbuilding with the Romans themselves. Completely changing the system of erecting ships, engineers have achieved unimaginable for those times results. One vessel a day was descended on the water

"Galeas" - the first large ship built at this shipyard. It was a huge three-masted galley, designed to carry guns and heavy guns. "Galeas" did not live up to the expectations of its creators, being too slow and impracticable. After working on the errors, the engineers launched a second vessel, a fortress on the water - the Galleon, armed with the latest technology. It was this ship that had a huge impact on the further development of human history.
Venetian Arsenal

Due to the military actions of Napoleon Arsenal was badly damaged, now the issue of rebuilding the structure is not worthwhile due to the vastness of the area requiring reconstruction. In recent years, some cultural events have been held in the Arsenal, including the Venice Biennale,
