The Museum of Venetian Lace (Museo del Merletto) is located on the charming islet of Burano, located 9 km from the City on the water. This landmark Venice is located in the building of the School of Venetian lace, the work of the master who is still very much appreciated around the world.
Buran lace is still considered one of the symbols of beautiful Venice. His best examples, the most real masterpieces of lacework, are collected in the Buran Lace Museum. Some connoisseurs of arts and crafts come to the island only for the sake of visiting this museum. It is located opposite the Church of San Martino
The exposition of the museum, which was opened in 1981, presents the original works of the masters of the island of Burano. The oldest exhibits of the museum collection date back to the 16th century. The light weightless lace woven without a foundation and similar to the air web is especially fascinating to the museum visitors.
Once upon a time there was a lace-making school in the building of the museum, in which experienced masters taught young girls sent here from all over Italy. To master a rare craft was only possible here: the authorities watched that the secrets of weaving Buran lace remained on the island
