The history of the complex of Capitoline Museums begins in the 15th century, when Pope Sixtus IV was given to the inhabitants of Rome the richest collection of bronze statues from Lateran.

Signed ancient statues and mosaics in the Renaissance and Baroque style, masterpieces of Caravaggio , Rubens, Titian, Tintoretto settled in the huge halls of museums. Since 2000, two wings have been united by an underground tunnel - "tabularia."

Palazzo Nuovo

Centrale Montemartini

In the Centrale Montemartini Museum in the building of the former power plant another 400 sculptures are exhibited and the continuation of the excellent collection of the classical art.

Useful Information

Capitoline Museums work every day from 9:00 to 13 : 00, Tuesdays and Saturdays - additionally from 17:00 to 20:00, in the summer season - until 23:00 on Saturdays. Weekend - every Monday, as well as on January 1, May 1 and 25.

Tickets are best booked in advance, as there are always a lot of visitors in Capitoline museums. The usual ticket price is 6, 50 EUR + 1, 50 EUR for visiting individual exhibitions, free admission for visitors to 18 and over 65.
