Walpurgis Night

Walpurgis Night is one of the main pagan holidays dedicated to fertility. Over time, it was transformed into a spring festival and is traditionally celebrated at night from April 30 to May 1 in much of central and northern Europe.

The name of the Walpurgis Night is associated with the name of St. Walpurga, a Wimbourn nun who came from England to Germany in 748 with the purpose of the foundation of the monastery. After her death, she was read as a saint, as the nun enjoyed immense popularity.

In Germany and Scandinavia in the Middle Ages, this day was considered the time when witches gather for feasts at the top of the mountains.
