According to the results of 2013, the number of overnight stays fixed by European hoteliers reached a record the mark of 2, 6 billion - is by 1, 6% more than the same indicator of a year ago.
France still remains at the head of the rating: during this period the guests spent 405 million nights in local hotels, which is 1, 1% higher marks of 2012. The second place went to Spain, which marked last year a significant growth in the entire tourist sector, and Italy topped the top three with a negative trend. The top five of the list is as follows:

- Spain (387 million, +1%)
- Italy (363 million, -4, 5%)
- Germany (355 million, +1, 3%)
- Great Britain (320 million, +6, 5%)
The listed countries account for about 70% of the total number of nights spent by guests in European hotels. As for the growth rate, Greece was out of competition, which registered a jump of 11.7% (87.3 million overnight stays) in 2013.
