This afternoon the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official message requesting Russian tourists to refrain from traveling to the riot-ridden Egypt.
At the beginning of the second half of the day, the following statement appeared on the official website of the Ministry (mid.ru):
"In Egypt, the internal conflict escalates, accompanied by increased tension and violence. The number of dead and wounded on both sides is multiplying. Attacks by extremists on Christian churches and mosques have been noted, and a surge in crime has been observed. Clashes and unrest, having begun in the capital, quickly spread to other cities and regions of Egypt, including those visited by tourists. In these circumstances, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation recommends that Russian citizens refrain from visiting Egypt. "
This message means an implicit prohibition for Russian tour operators to sell permits to the country. That is, of course, it is still possible to sell, but for all the consequences (mainly financial) the representatives of the tourist industry will answer with their own heads. In particular, this morning Rospotrebnadzor ordered all the travel agencies without exception to refund the cost of the vouchers to Egypt, which the Russian travelers want to refuse.
We recall that during yesterday's clashes with the supporters of the deposed President Muhammad Mursi, 278 people (according to official information). This morning, the Egyptian authorities decided to impose a curfew in twelve provinces
