Immediately eleven beaches The Dominican Republic received a prestigious accreditation - the Blue Flag. The international jury selected the 11 best beaches by criteria such as cleanliness of the beach and coastal waters, availability of necessary rescue equipment, environmental education activities for holidaymakers and the availability of comprehensive information for tourists at special stands.

The award went to the following beaches:

• El Portillo, Samana (hotel Bahia Principe)

• La Laguna (hotel Bahia Principe San Juan)

• Dominicus (hotel Bahia Principe San Juan)

• Bahia Escondida (hotel Bahia Principe San Juan)

• Maria Trinidad Sanchez (hotel Bahia Principe San Juan)

The Foundation for Environmental Education award is a guarantee of cleanliness and safety of the country's public beaches. Blue Flag has been in operation since 1987. For more than twenty years more than 53,000 beaches around the world have been honored to establish the Blue Flag.
