Sendai Tanabata Star Festival

@ Make a wish at the largest annual event in Sendai Tanabata Star Festival in Sindai. From 6 to 8 August, two million people will roam the streets of the city, decorated with huge paper lanterns and colored stretches in honor of the festival. The streets of Ichibancho-dori and Chuo-dori look really impressive.

The festival is dedicated to the construction of bamboo sticks, on which people hang ribbons, talismans, origami and colored threads.

The festival dates back to the eighth century and is based on the old Chinese legend of two lovers. Separated by the Milky Way, the shepherd Kengua (star Altair) and the weaver Orihime (star Vega) can meet only for one night in the (lunar) seventh day of the seventh month. It is believed that any wish that is envisioned on this day will necessarily come true.
