Formerly a very "fashionable" place for resting the mortal body of the Highgate Cemetery today has become one of the sights of London with a mystical bias. Open in the Victorian era, it quickly grew into tombstones and tombs in the Gothic style. Today, the cemetery is almost in the woods, trees and shrubs grow on its territory, birds and small animals live. The directors of horror films often wander here in search of inspiration or simply arrange a set here.
Mysterious and somewhat ominous the atmosphere of this place contributes to the preservation of its reputation as a place where in ancient times one could easily meet a vampire, only to linger until darkness. Access to the oldest part of the cemetery is permitted For organized tourist groups - in order to preserve the remarkable in its kind of Victorian tombstones and mausoleums. One of the most frequently visited places here is the tomb of Karl Marx with a modest tombstone crowned by the bust of the German philosopher
