Beaches Playa de Corralejo
In the city there are small crowded beaches. In the south of the resort, just outside of it, the ten-kilometer coast of Corralejo, the island's most beautiful beach, begins. Along the coast, there is a highway to Puerto del Rosario, on the one side of which stretches a beach with white sand, turquoise water and views of Lobos Island, and on the other, dunes El Jable.
A wide sand belt occupies 27 square kilometers. km, but it seems endless and in places resembles the Sahara. Many rare species of birds (canaries, hoopoes, Egyptian vultures) are found here, and several years ago an egg of a fossil ostrich was found.
The unique landscape of the resort has been protected since 1982 and declared a reserve, which prohibits any construction. Only two hotels, Riu Oliva Beach Resort and Riu Palace Tres Islas, apart from a few kilometers from the town, stand alone among the sands. These largest resort complexes were built even before El-Jable received the status of a natural park.
