The Department of Cultural Heritage has launched works aimed at restoring the original Gwanghwamun Gate, which they lost during the Japanese occupation, Kor yskoy war and other crisis period for the country. The ceremonial opening of the restored gates will take place during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Korean Liberation Day (August 15).

The main buildings will be restored to the approaching holiday, in particular, Gwanghwamun, Jonssonmun, Hepsenmun, eastern and western Sumunzhanchon, Yongunzhikxo and other buildings, as well as part of the fortification wall to the left and right of the Gwanghwamun Gate and Odo Road, running from the Gwanghwamun Gate to Hinememun, along which the King was marching.

At the moment, 90% and by August 15 restored gates will be presented, and after the celebration, the restoration of the Toncepchagak Tower, the fortification wall, the sewerage system, etc. will continue.

After completion of the restoration works, the Gwanghwamun Gate, which is the main entrance to the Gyeongbokgung Palace, will allow you to feel all the their importance and greatness, and taking the place of one of the main monuments of the cultural heritage of the capital, will assert themselves as a great cultural monument of great value.
