If it seems to you that the sights from the sky do not fall, then here's the direct proof of the opposite. In 1961, the usual collective farm field in Saratov turned into a landmark all-Union scale: Yuri Gagarin himself landed after the first manned space flight! Of course, this place was wanted to be classified, but rumors and popular rumor proved to be faster. Not keeping information secret, the authorities took care to draw as much attention to this event as possible.
And here on the site of the usual field grew a memorial complex. There is an obelisk here - a small copy of what stands near the Cosmonautics Museum at VDNH in Moscow. Nearby there is a concrete monument to Yuri Gagarin and stelae with portraits of cosmonauts, as well as Tsiolkovsky and Korolev - the ancestors of cosmonautics. For clarity, they also placed the device in which Gagarin allegedly landed. In fact, this is the "Photon" from the Saratov Museum of Military Glory.
In the Soviet years there were grandiose plans for the construction of a museum and a hotel for tourists, but these plans were not to come true. Today, whole competitions are held on projects to transform the Gagarin field into a center for international cosmonautics, but they are still virtual.
