The architecture of the old bridge reflected the characteristic for the 19th century heightened interest in the art of Ancient Egypt. Portals, columns, as well as cornice and other parts were decorated with ornaments from hieroglyphs, and cast-iron figures of sphinxes (sculptor PP Sokolov) were placed on both sides of the bridge.
