The museum is located in the building where the last years of the life of the Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky, the creator of the image of the "ideal fighter of the revolution" - Pavel Korchagin (not to be confused with the writer of the 19th century, Alexander Ostrovsky, the author "Bride") . The street where the museum is located is named after him, as if it were not a fictional character, but a real person . By the way, such a street exists in Moscow . Writer, already seriously ill and completely blind , got this house in Sochi from the Union and writers of the USSR . Actually it is a villa built in the style of art deco typical for the pre-war resort . Today the status of the museum is a cultural and educational institution of the city of Sochi in the Krasnodar Territory, and it was opened in 1937 .
General the area of the museum is large enough, more than 1000 square meters. m, exhibition areas occupy more than 500 square meters. m, museum items in the exposition and storages - 37 thousand. The exposition divides into 3 main parts.
The first is the memorial house of NA Ostrovsky. The writer's family, books, household items, rare documents, photographs were preserved here.
The second part is the Literary Museum, whose building was built in 1956 by architect ID Spirin. Here is the history of the literary life of the city, starting from the 19th century, after all there lived the Decembrists A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky, A. Odoevsky, exiled to the Caucasus. The 20th century is represented by the names of V. Mayakovsky, Vera Inber, A. Serafimovich, M. Zoshchenko. There are book rarities, objects of everyday life, applied art of the late 18th - first half of the 19th century, iconography, graphics by Kravchenko, Kibrik, S. Brodsky, as well as a large collection of coins of the Soviet era.
