The Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local History is a large association of museums scattered across ten cities of the region, of which four represent their expositions in Yekaterinburg.
The museum is founded thanks to the initiative and painstaking work of members of the "Ural Society of Naturalists", and the world-famous The museum was acquired thanks to the unique exhibit - the Great Shigir idol. This is the oldest surviving wooden sculpture to this day, the age of which, it is difficult to believe, is nine and a half thousand years! It is older than the Egyptian pyramids approximately twice.
The main building of the museum is two houses connected by a transition, belonging to the previously known Ural businessmen Poklevsky-Kozell and the city Duma.
