Ural is proud to be at the junction of two parts of the world. True, the exact location of the border between Europe and Asia has not yet been found. As early as the 18th century Vasily Tatishchev, one of the founders of Yekaterinburg, suggested that this feature is the backbone of the Ural Mountains
It seems that the first obelisk "Europe-Asia" appeared as early as 1837 near the Berezovaya Mountain. It was a small wooden monument, which was then replaced by a marble pyramid with a gilt double-headed eagle. Unfortunately, during the Civil War the pyramid was destroyed.
Then another obelisk was put on this place, but without the eagle. The Soviet authorities also wondered where the border passes. On this adventure the obelisk did not end. In 2008 it was moved closer to another possible border between Europe and Asia - to the city of Novouralsk. A memorial sign from red granite grew to 30 meters, and at its top the eagle again found itself.
This is, so to speak, the official section between the two parts of the world. In total there are about 20 borders in the outskirts of Yekaterinburg, and about 50 outside the region.
