Undoubtedly, one of the brightest memories of Jurmala is easy to visit the Jurmala City Museum. After all, there are a lot of exhibits in the collection that tell how the city developed from the beginning of the 19th century up to our time.
It is logical that since Jurmala is a resort, then it is necessary to tell about it . Or rather - about life of Jurmala from the end of the 19th century to the present time . That is why the Jurmala City Museum, unlike ordinary city museums, presents an opportunity to look at a variety of exhibits related to the life of the resort . Here you will not find either ancient stones or prehistoric objects of labor a: there is a rich collection of bathing suits, old postcards with the image of the city, those things that rose from the seabed, and many other items .
Curiously, there is no large collection of swimming trunks here, as the women were obviously more fond of new things than men. But for the representatives of the stronger sex, keen on archaeological and underwater research, the exhibition "Ships in the Deeps" is most suitable. Here they are waiting for a story about the usual trading schooners, warships and submarines. Not to mention the history of shipping in Latvia.
The exposition "The history of the resorts of Riga Jurmala and Kemeri" is constantly working, it was updated in 2008. It is also considered that someone will be hungry: there is a small cafe at the museum where you can order lunch
Jurmala City Museum works only 50 years, but it already has a rich collection of old calendars, finds of divers from the seabed, the history of the advertising poster in Latvia, postcards and posters associated with the concert hall "Dzintari."
Working time: Wednesday - Sunday, 10:00 - 17:00. Admission fee: 0, 70-4 EUR. On Fridays, the museum is free.
