Festival in Japan

Takayama Matsuri Festival is held twice a year, and the tradition of its conduct dates back to the 15th century. Spectacular parades with moving platforms, solemn ceremonies and traditional folk performances that take place at the main shrines of the city.

During the Takayama festival one can see one of the most colorful platforms of Japan, made with a huge scale. Beautifully decorated with dolls, thick fabrics of draperies, lacquered and upholstered with bamboo, covered with bizarre carvings, they amaze the participants of the festival.

The festival opens and closes with a solemn ceremony of the ritual in the temple. Between them are marches involving platforms and hundreds of people dressed in medieval costumes. Also there are music, dances and traditional puppet shows dedicated to the gods.
