The race is the culmination of a two-week festival, which takes place from 1 to 15 July. During this time, teams from different regions must build richly decorated cakyamakas weighing about a ton each. Teams competed with each other for centuries, and the spirit of rivalry is very strong.
The drum roll fills the streets, people are rooting for the teams, and the kakiyaks pass by them . "Horsemen" on kakiyamakas, in traditional clothes, you can see , as well as runners in loincloths .
