The museum exhibits numerous exhibits, including the model of the last "Buchintoro" - a floating palace in which the Doge left to "get engaged with the sea", models of modern ships, torpedoes of the times World War II, models of Venetian fortresses, old uniforms, boats, boats and gondolas. An entertaining element of the exposition: in the last hall of the last floor in wooden cabinets thousands of identical sea shells are presented - a collector's gift
History
Originally the historical building of the Museum of the History of the Navy was used as a shed for storing grain, which is now evident from its uncomplicated architectural ensemble. Later, at the end of the 17th century, the building was transferred to the ownership of the Venetian Arsenal and began to be used for storing ship spare parts and mock vessels.
The building of the Naval History Museum received its name - "Models House" . This place , where various models of ships were collected, the design of which was later used in the construction of these ships . In 1797 . during the French occupation the "Model House" was looted . All relics, weapons and trophies of the Venetian Republic, which were stored in walls sent to France . After the war, the Austrians helped restore the lost collection, which initiated the formation of a museum of history in the building of the Arsenal .
The Museum of the History of the Navy is on the left side of the Venetian Arsenal. It has 5 floors and a huge exhibition area, divided into 42 rooms. In addition, there is a pavilion of ships, which occupies about 1250 square meters. m and located just in three buildings. This pavilion is also known as the "Paddle Workshop", it is used to store large boats that simply will not fit in the main building of the museum.
The exterior façade of the museum is very poor and unremarkable (except for the huge real anchor at the entrance to the building), which you can not say about the interior. The museum's pride is the 45-meter "Buchintoro" (the ship carrying the doge). The whole boat, once richly decorated with gold ornaments and sculptures made by master Alessandro Vittoria, has preserved to this day only some of them.
In general, the museum has collected more than 25 thousand excellent exhibits, among which there are portraits of famous Venetian admirals, a torpedo with a steam engine, wax figures of naval officers in full dress, a collection of naval clothing and headdresses from around the world and many other equally interesting things.
