Add a review about the Palantine Gate in Turin

The Palantine Gate in Turin is a historical landmark, the legacy of ancient times

Polygonal towers were added to the gates in the Middle Ages

The Palantine Gate was given its modern name due to its close proximity to the Palazzo Reale , one of the main palaces of Turin. There is a historical artifact close to the city center.

However, originally the Palantine Gate served as the "door" of the fortress wall in the north of the settlement, which is considered the ancestor of modern Turin.

Ancient ruins against the background of today's photographed tourists date back to the 1st century BC . e. The remains are directly the gate (or "Palace Gate") and two towers. Polygonal towers were added to the gate already in the Middle Ages. These buildings are young compared to the remnants of the defensive wall. Of course, over the centuries the tower has been rebuilt many times. For example, it is known that the teeth were installed on them in 1404

The Palantine gate would hardly have survived to our days, had it not been for the architect Antonio Bernola. It was he who in the 18th century convinced the city authorities of the historical value of the ancient ruins. Otherwise, the gates and towers would probably have been destroyed in the framework of a large urban reconstruction.

At the beginning of the 20th century, pseudo-Roman statues made of bronze were installed next to the Palantine gate. Thanks to this, the ruins look more picturesque.
