Palazzi dei Rolli, or "palaces from the list" - part of the urban development of Genoa, consisting exclusively of the palazzo, which belonged to the 16th century Genoese aristocracy. Palaces were built mainly in the early Baroque era on the streets of Via Garibaldi and partly Via Balbi. Since 2006, the Palazzi dei Rolli has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Palazzi dei Rolli includes more than 40 multi-storey palaces in a fairly small area. Closeness and proximity to neighbors forced the owners to build their palaces up.
The name "Palaces from the list" is due to the fact that during the construction of the Palazzi dei Rolli quarter by order of the Senate of Genoa all the palaces were listed on three characteristics - the importance of the owner, aesthetic beauty of the building and its size. The palaces were chosen by the royal persons, ambassadors and rulers of cities who came to Genoa for the criteria indicated in the list.
At the present time, Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo are the most interesting of all Palazzi dei Rolli -Doria-Turzi on Via Garibaldi. In addition to their own historical architectural significance, they attract tourists with galleries with world-famous canvases by Dutch and Italian masters
