Add a review about the Padua Cathedral

The Padua Cathedral is considered the main religious structure in the city, although inferior in size to the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua.

Today's cathedral is the third building that was erected on this site. The first two cathedrals were destroyed to the ground.

Despite the fact that Michelangelo was involved in the construction of the Padua Cathedral (the building was built according to his drawings), the appearance of the church is simple. The usual brick facade of the church can be called even boring.

Inside from an artistic point of view, the Paduan Cathedral is much more interesting than outside. The church is a basilica with attached chapels. Thus, in the chapel of the Madonna of Miracles the gaze rests the baroque altar of the 17th century. And in the Chapel of Holy Mysteries there are paintings with religious subjects, as well as an altar and a wooden gilt altar in the Rococo style.

At the Padua Cathedral there is a list with the Byzantine icon "The Virgin and Child". The original of this icon was lost in the 13th century. The list is dated to the 15th century

Another shrine of the Padua Cathedral - the relics of St. Gregory Barbarigo. He is listed among the saints for his great care for poor orphans and widowers.

The Michelangelo is involved in the construction of the Padua Cathedral (the building was built according to his drawings).

The schedule of the Padua Cathedral is different on weekdays and Sundays. During the day there are hours when the cathedral is closed for visits.
