In honor of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of Rome as the capital of the Italian state, an exhibition showing the main stages of the city's history was opened. It is interesting because it not only provides an opportunity to better understand the past of the "capital of the world", but also to understand its present through research into the organization of the city, its monuments, artistic heritage, street drawings, its millennial traditions.

Rome as an idea originated in the era of Humanism , when the "myth" began to form about him as a symbol of the classical ancient civilization, an ideal role model for imitation. The eternal city in its multifaceted image combined features of the imperial capital and the center of Christian religion.

But only in the XIX century the "Rome Idea" was established as a universal value. A whole chain of intellectuals and poets from Italy and from all over the world was drawn to the city, seeking to find the key to the present in the lessons of the past.

The exposition of the exhibition focuses on two key themes: the territorial organization of the city and its everyday social life from ancient times to our days.

The exhibition consists of several sections: "Classic Rome", "The idea of ​​Rome in the Middle Ages", "The Ruins of Rome 1849", "Holy Rome", "Rome-Capital", "Modern Rome", "Urban Utopia" and " Rome '60 "
