The cheerful festival of Hamauwo takes place in the capital of the Republic of Ghana, Accra, in memory of the glorious ancient harvest and marks the arrival of the new year Ga. A week before the event, from day to day throughout Accra, there is a drumbeat foreshadowing the upcoming triumph.

Colorful processions fill the city streets during the festival. Many of its participants go miles with freshly picked fruits, which they carry on their head to join the dancing and procession, which celebrate the harvest. The priests perform the ritual, strewing the streets with traditional festive food, Kpokpoi, which is done in honor of the gods and ancestors of the state of Ghana. During the harvest, the locals become especially generous and offer tourists yams, corn and chickens.

The time of the festival depends on the harvest, but this year the event is scheduled for August 19.
