The City Museum of the History of the Oldest City of France definitely descends, and such a place exists: it is the Museum of Marseilles History. Marseille is officially the oldest city in France. It was founded in the 6th century BC. It is more than 2, 5 thousand years old, they are all filled with stormy, diverse and complex events, and the city museum reflects this very well.
And everything began prosaically: in the old part of the city, just outside the city's "Garden of Ruins, tried to increase the neighboring shopping center . Well, then went the usual way for the Mediterranean way "built a parking - found a Roman city": during the construction of the shopping center there was such a number of historical artifacts that surprised even the well-known Mediterranean builders . And then there were more and the remnants of rim a port, Greek fortifications, archaeologists interfered, the public was indignant - and the shopping center ended here without starting, and the unfinished building in 1983 . was turned into a city museum .
The museum now consists of two parts: the actual exposition in the building and the "Garden of Ruins" at the site of the oldest city port, they were united
Collection
The museum exposition is divided into 13 sections, each is devoted to the definition of ennomu Slot - from the base of the city in the 6th century BC. e. until the middle of the 20th century. All stages of history are covered: the foundation of the Greeks, the capture of the Romans, the baptism, the transformation into a medieval independent city, the incorporation into the French government of the era of French monarchs, the revolution, the First and Second World Wars.
Each section is further divided into smaller expositions. In some cases, some particularly important events of the era, organization or historical processes (for example, the Great Plague, the appearance of the first port or industrialization) are highlighted, in some - findings are found with a particularly fruitful excavation, and somewhere - some types of industries, trade or something else. Among other things, there is a collection of remnants of ancient ships, the largest in the Mediterranean - the oldest wreck is about 2600 years old.
In general, this is one of the best urban museums, a large, diverse collection. There are a lot of things for each section, the exhibits are extremely diverse.
"Garden of Ruins"
The second part of the museum is "Garden of Ruins". During the excavations they found an old port, opened and cleaned old buildings, and a park was planted around it. It was such a museum in the open air. Here you can see the remains of the Greek docks, port, walls and fortifications, the remains of Roman houses, etc.
