Brussels has approved a bill according to which fines paid by airlines to their customers for delaying flights will increase to several hundred EUR
As it follows from the adopted document, for delay of long-haul flight (over 6 thousand kilometers) for more than 7 hours the air carrier is obliged to pay each a passenger for 600 EUR (of course, that it is just an additional payment, not a ticket refund). For a 4-hour delay with a range of 3, 5 to 6 thousand kilometers, similar payments will amount to 400 EUR. Finally, for a delay of up to 3 hours on the route of less than 3, 5 thousand kilometers, the traveler will be entitled to a remuneration of EUR 300.
At the moment, the bill approved by the European Parliament is under consideration by the relevant authorities within the member countries of the European Union. In case of its final approval, the announced fines can be introduced as early as at the end of 2014.
