Prater, perhaps the most famous of the Viennese parks. Its area covers more than 6 square kilometers. Usually this name (which, incidentally, comes from the Latin pratum, which in translation means "meadow") is associated with an amusement park. In fact, swings and carousels are only part of the Prater, the so-called "Sausage" or "People's" Prater.
Spring in the Prater Park |
The greater part of the mentioned six kilometers falls on the Green Prater, the old shady park, in places almost the forest - a favorite place for rest of the townspeople where you can ride a bicycle or roller skates, mouth aivat picnic, jog, wander through the shady alleys, sunbathe on the lawn or sit on the bench with a book.
But being tourists, back in the Prater "People." The local minimum tourist program is the Vienna Ferris wheel and the Schweizerhaus beer garden.
As for the Ferris wheel, it should be noted that there are two of them in the Prater: a large new and old, that is less. The minimum program, as a rule, includes an old one, built in 1897. The thieves would very much like it to be not only old, but also the oldest, but alas, the first was built four years earlier in Chicago. But the Viennese, opened in the year of the fiftieth anniversary of the coronation of Emperor Franz Joseph, remained the world's highest for many years.
As well as without a Ferris wheel, Prater is unthinkable and without a beer tower Oran Schweizerhaus, who during his youth in the early 19th century was even for a while called "The Russian Kaiser" . But let us return to our restless 21: today the doors of this establishment are open to 2,400 guests, with 125 employees offering the traditional joys of Viennese cuisine: schnitzel , goulash, pork ham Aisbain with sour cabbage, pancakes and, of course, beer: draft and bottle, dark and light, and more recently also bok-bir . It is said that on hot days the cocks of barrels do not close to have time to fill 7000 beer mugs . In Austrian This capacity is called a Krugel and contains a liter of liquid . This year's prices have risen by 20 cents: 1 Krugel costs 4 EUR 10 cents, 1 kg of iceberg - 16, 30 .
Prater is open from March 15 on October 31.

Great place for family holidays! February 05, 2014
It was decided to get from the city center by metro, especially since the road hired about 5 minutes and 3 stations!
The park at first seemed not large and only a large and beautiful Ferris wheel with booths for a romantic dinner could be seen. In fact, the park is very large!
In winter the park is not very crowded, and many attractions do not work or are simply empty. But even we ... Read the full review
