The Vienna Funeral Supplies Museum offers visitors a chance to get acquainted with the funeral culture, rituals and traditions
The museum exposition has almost a thousand exhibits related to the cult of death: mourning livery, sarcophagus and accessories of gravediggers, models of funeral urns, coffins and hearses. A special place is given to special devices, for example, rescue bells. With the help of them, the buried by mistake could attract attention. This invention later turned into a rescue signaling - a wooden box with a powerful bell (which is also on display).

One of the special exhibits of the Funeral Supplies Museum is the so-called economical coffin, which could be used several times . On the lower side it has a door through which the body of the deceased descends into the grave, after which the coffin can be reused . In 1785 such coffins were ordered to use the Emperor Joseph II to disaccustom the inhabitants of Vienna from weakness to "beautiful deeds" and expensive and pompous funeral . The idea, despite its practicality, caused strong discontent among the population . The case reached public riots and protest marches, so the Kaiser was forced to cancel his order .
At the moment the museum is closed, the opening is planned for September 2014
