Every July at the Coventry Memorial Park a grand festival with free entertainment is held, during which the city's residents celebrate its historic connection with Lady Godiva. At the festival live music is always playing, from year to year there is a procession of half-dressed Godiv, and at the same time you can ride horses along the alleys of the park. This year the Festival will be held from June 29 to July 1.

Godiva was the wife of the powerful Earl of Mercia Leofric in the early 11th century. She saw that the taxes for the local residents of Coventry were exorbitant, and asked her husband to lower them. He replied that he would take such a step only if she rode naked on a horse through the streets of the city. She agreed, and on the appointed day all the townspeople, as a sign of respect, closed the windows and shutters and did not go out into the street. Only Spying Tom decided to look at the naked countess, after which he was overtaken by God's punishment, and he went blind.
