A recent study conducted by British Airways has confirmed the emerging trend in Europe for the withdrawal of clients from travel agencies. At the same time, the English air carrier kept track of every stage of preparing the trip for European tourists.
Whatever the final destination, more than 90% of Europeans are looking for information about it on the Internet . Of these, 76% (that is three quarters) book air tickets and hotel rooms also, without getting up from the computer, even though ten years ago this figure did not exceed 13% . For example, in 2003 65% of European tourists bought vouchers or air tickets in travel agencies, and 22% they reserved them by phone . The purchase of air tickets over the Internet, in addition to convenience and speed, gave a few additional advantages that forever eclipsed the usual paper tickets: getting an e-ticket, the choice of a seat in the cabin, check-in with a smartphone or an automatic counter at the airport .
It is obvious that in the next few years the employees of the European travel agencies will either have to redeploy or look for work in another industry.
