A bit of history
It is believed that Patara was founded by Patarus, the son of Apollo. In ancient times, in the temple of Apollo in Patara, predicted the international and worldly events of the oracle (the second in importance after the Delphi).
Alexander the Great conquered the city in 333 BC. After that, in Patara, a succession of Greek rulers was replaced, until the city fell under the Roman protectorate, and later under the rule of Byzantium.

How to get to Patara
@ The nearest airport is in Dalaman, 110 km from Patara. There are daily low-cost bus routes from Antalya (200 km), Kasha (up to 40 km), Kalkana and Fethiye (70 km).
