The 44th contemporary art fair Art Basel - the largest of its kind - takes place on this week in Basel, Switzerland. After two days reserved for "VIP" clients, the event takes a wide audience today.
Of 1000 candidates, only 304 art galleries from 39 countries got a place at the Basel Fair. In their totality they represent works of 4000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The largest number of seats went to participants from the US: 80 galleries from several American cities participate in the event. They are followed by representatives of Germany (60 galleries) and Great Britain (40 galleries). Switzerland itself, which has a market of works of art with a worldwide reputation, is represented by thirty art galleries.
Art Basel fair lasts until Sunday. Viewers granted free access not only to the section of the participants, but also on the exposition «Swiss Art Awards», which exhibited 70 works selected for the Swiss Federal awards in the arts in 2013.
