Add a review about the National Museum of Romanticism in Madrid

The Spanish National Museum of Romanticism in Madrid is unusual in its already chosen specialization. A period of enthusiasm for Romanticism is in the history of the arts of all European countries, but a separate museum on this occasion is a rarity.

Created it was one of the most famous Spanish patrons and opened in the early 20th century. By the time the passion for romanticism had already gone out of fashion, but there were a lot of exhibits for the museum.

Romanticism was very popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries throughout Europe (including in Russia) and meant the depiction of strong passions and the rejection of the real world in favor of a very sublime fictional. This fashion has touched all spheres of art, but first of all - painting and literature. If you remember the works of Byron from school, then that's it. Nevertheless, this is one of the most interesting periods in European art, and it's worth to go to the museum.

Here is an interesting and original collection, a lot of unusual exhibits. A lot of very expressive painting, wonderful printed collections

Exposition

The collection contains a lot of different exhibits, but the fine arts prevail. There is a large collection of paintings, there are works of almost all serious Spanish artists of the 19th century, including the works of Francisco Goy. Landscapes, portraits, genre painting - everything can be found.

Also in the museum there are many lithographs, sketches, watercolors, miniatures and other. Especially good are the collection of miniatures - a genre very common in that era and illustrations for works of romantic genres, some very expressive.

A separate large section is a collection of decorative objects. Ornaments, exquisite ladies' things, things for decoration of the dwelling - all this was also fashionable, and romanticism reflected on them quite interestingly.

The museum's special pride is the collection of furniture. Furniture of that era looks, let's say, an amateur, but if you do not mind the abundance of roses on the upholstery - it will be interesting. Its a lot, a variety of styles. Romantic empire, romantic classicism, romantic modernism - everything is there.

The museum is located in an interesting building - an aristocratic mansion of the 18th century, built by a famous architect, an unusual baroque variant turned out. There are often temporary exhibitions devoted to romanticism, often literary ones. An interesting and original collection, a lot of unusual exhibits. A lot of very expressive painting, wonderful printed collections.

But it is worth considering that romanticism is a kind of genre and is not liked by everyone. A teenage girl is more likely to like a museum, but if you are an adult who quickly becomes tired of heightened emotionality, then it may be better to choose another museum, there are many good things in Madrid.
