Add a review of the basilica of Candelaria

Of the religious attractions of Tenerife especially worth noting the Basilica of Candelaria. This Catholic church, located in the city of the same name, deserves to be visited. A tall bell tower adjoins the temple, and a beautiful and solemn decoration awaits inside the visitors.

The Blessed Virgin Mary - the Virgin of Candelaria is considered its main shrine and patroness. In honor of her, the church was consecrated. The Basilica of the Candelaria was built on the site of the old church more than half a century ago, namely in 1959.

For the tourists the doors of the church are always open, but with the amendment: in the allotted time for visitors. The time of operation of the Basilica of Candelaria is as follows: Monday - Friday: 7.30 - 13.00, 15.00 - 19.30, Saturday - Sunday: 7.30 - 19.30. Visitors are not charged an entrance fee.

Every year on February 2 and August 15, the Candelaria basil becomes a pilgrimage center.

These days thousands of believers from Tenerife and the other Canary Islands come here to pay homage to the patroness of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is worth noting that the events are not in a purely religious channel. The Basilica of the Candelaria in Tenerife turns into the epicenter of folk festivals accompanied by dances and noisy fireworks
