The Hanging Lion Bridge across the Griboedov Canal against the Small Podyacheskoe Street was built on the design of engineer G. Tretter in 1825-1826. The name Lion's name was established behind the bridge, because it is decorated with cast-iron figures of lions sitting on pedestals (sculptor PP Sokolov).
Inside the sculptures of lions there are supporting mechanisms that hold the chains on which the suspension bridge rests . In . Tretter developed the original pattern of the cast-iron fence of the bridge used later in the design of the Ioannovsky Bridge leading to the Peter and Paul Fortress . Despite the technical complexity of the project, the bridge was built in a short time . The grand opening was held in July 1826 . The citizens began to refer to the crossing as "The Bridge of Four llah, only later after the bridge its current name was fixed . The width of the bridge is 2, 5 meters, and its length exceeds 27 meters .
In 1954 lights were installed near the bridge, support mechanisms, sculptures restored their historical appearance, painted them in the color of marble. Snow-white lions are especially expressive at night, when their silhouettes are reflected in the water surface of the canal.
