One of the first museum ships in St. Petersburg was the cruiser Aurora, who was Russia's defender in two wars - in the Russian-Japanese the war of 1904-1905 and in the First World War of 1914-1918, in which he participated in a brigade of cruisers of the Baltic Fleet.
The ship actively manifested itself in combat operations during the First World War and in the revolutionary events of 1917. In February 1917 the ship was to be withdrawn from Petrograd. But the sailors rose and raised the red flag of the revolution over the ship. On October 25, 1917, a single shot of the ship served as a signal for the capture of the Winter Palace.
Also the cruiser Aurora is known for its role in the events of the October Revolution of 1917.
