Add a review about the central embankment of Volgograd

The central embankment of Volgograd received its name in honor of the 62nd Army, standing on the protection of the northern part of the city during the Battle of Stalingrad. Three churches were formerly located on this territory, but with the improvement of the shore line the buildings were demolished.

Works on embankment upgrading began in 1930. After the war, one of the main sights of Volgograd was restored, its symbol was the central staircase with eight-column propylaeas.

Today the guests of the city can only admire the Church of St. John the Baptist, restored in 2001. The church was erected on the site of its predecessor - a stone building of the 16th century

Terrace, colonnades and rotunda decorating the main embankment, restored according to pre-revolutionary sketches. The lion's share of monuments and structures worthy of attention of tourists who came to Volgograd is located in the coastal zone. This is the armored car "Gasitel", a fountain with three muses, named after "Art", a water pump of the 19th century and other attractions.

Before the revolution, the embankment in Tsaritsyn functioned as a cargo port, then it received the name of Stepan Razin, the modern name appeared right after the end Great Patriotic War.

Perhaps the most interesting sight at the river is the "dancing bridge" across the Volga, which made a lot of noise a couple of years ago and "glorified" Volgograd. An automobile bridge crossing 30 km long in 2010 was closed for a while, until the cover fluctuations were eliminated. Their amplitude was about one meter
