Sinterklaas
Amsterdam to host the Sinterklaas procession

Every year the Dutch Santa Claus - Sinterklaas arrives in Amsterdam at the end of November in Amsterdam on a steamer from his residence in Madrid. Of course, he is given a grand reception and holds a parade in his honor with festive moving platforms and hundreds of marchers. The parade starts around noon at the Museum of Navigation, and ends at Leidseplein, where Sinterklaas steps out onto the balcony with a traditional appeal to the children. This year he will arrive in Amsterdam on November 18.

Sinterklaas is a kind of analogue of American and English Santa. For some unknown reason, he lives in Spain and only returns to the Netherlands for a while.
