Cozy, small, quiet and calm, like most of the Czech cities, Colin would be an unremarkable province, if not for one "but". Visible from every corner of the city and even from the highway from Prague are the spiers of the Gothic Cathedral of St. Bartholomew - the brilliant pearl of the religious architecture of the Middle Ages, which the Czech Republic is so famous for.

Of course, this city is for an hour or two, no more, but in case you have so much free time - be sure to check it out. Walk along its booming cobblestone streets, admire the old houses, climb onto the observation deck that is on the tower of the cathedral, paying tribute to one of the most pastoral landscapes of Central Europe - the tiled roofs and valleys of the picturesque Central Bohemian Region.

The paragraph of history

Colin was founded by King Přemysl Otakar II in the distant 13th century, and already in 1261 had the status of a royal city, which is reflected in written sources. The next important milestone in the history of the city is the construction of the Gothic church of St. Bartholomew in the second half of the 14th century. In the years 1475-1488. For 18 years here lived the famous writer of the Renaissance Ginek from Poděbrady. Finally, it was near Kolin that the legendary Kolin battle took place on June 18, 1757, during the famous bloody Seven Years' War

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Kolina

@ The most important, pompous and, what really there, the great sight of Colin is, of course, the Gothic church of St. Bartholomew. He proudly towers over the squat Colin, bringing a feeling of pride and comfort in the heart of every local resident. It is no wonder - after all the choir of this basilica was built by the same master, Peter Parler, who was working on the construction of the most beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.

It is worth to climb the tower of the cathedral where the observation deck is located. From there you can see the amazing view of Karlovo namesti square and the whole Old Town
Kolin Festival

The second most important building of the city is the Baroque Town Hall, which is on the main square of Karlovo namesti. Nearby - the mass of Baroque mansions, a fountain (1870) and a plague column in the Baroque style, which was put here in 1682. Be sure to go to the embankment of the full-length Laba, which runs just a couple of hundred meters from the city center.

Finally, you should definitely take a stroll in the direction of the street "Na Gradbach" - once it was the center of the largest Jewish community in the Czech Republic. From the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century, Jewish families settled here from generation to generation, went to work in the baroque synagogue, until the twentieth century came, leading to the most terrible wars in history. During the Second World War, almost the entire Jewish community of Colin was destroyed in the Terezin concentration camp, only 60 Kolin Jews remained alive.

Despite all the reconstruction and restructuring, the former Jewish ghetto still keeps its amazing original atmosphere.

Who will be lucky enough to get to Colin in the middle of June, can enjoy the sounds of the enchanting festival of folk music "Kmochow Colin". Old clothes and musical instruments, traditional fun and good nature, as well as delicious Czech cuisine and beer - are guaranteed.
