Among other things, in Bruges are popular "handicraft". At the Jerusalem church there is a lace museum, where you can personally observe the process of lacework already by modern craftsmen-employees of the museum.
Bruges was in fact an impoverished city in which there was no industry. In the city, unemployment and alcoholism flourished. Lacemakers taught skill in 92 small and large schools. This amount is explained by the desire of church communities and individuals to protect young girls from the vicious influence of the street. For many women in Bruges, schools for training lace masters (classes were held in the interval between work) was the only form of obtaining at least some kind of education, a kind of "trip to life."
